Build a Stronger Body
for Your Golf Game

_______

Your golf swing doesn’t happen in isolation.

It depends on your strength, balance, mobility, coordination and your body’s ability to rotate and control movement. And if your body starts getting tired halfway through a round, that can affect your game too.

Sloan works with golfers in Sandy Springs and surrounding Atlanta communities who want their bodies to better support the game they love.

Not by teaching you how to swing a golf club.

By helping you build a body that’s better prepared to swing one.

Your Golf Pro Works on Your Swing.
Sloan Works on Your Body.

Golf instructor giving lessons on swing.

There’s an important distinction.

Sloan isn’t a golf instructor. He isn’t going to change your grip, analyze your club path or tell you which club to hit.

That’s your golf professional’s job.

Sloan looks at the physical side of the equation.

Do you have the mobility to rotate well? The strength to control that movement? The balance and stability to stay grounded through your swing? And can your body maintain those abilities throughout a round?

Sometimes what shows up in your golf game has a physical component.

Practicing your swing can’t give your body strength, balance or range of motion it doesn’t currently have.

Better physical capacity gives you more to work with on the course.

Sloan on Golf Fitness

_______

Sloan has been talking about the connection between physical fitness and the golf game for a long time. In this television segment, he demonstrates some of the strength, balance and stability principles he uses when training golfers.

Golf Requires More Than a Good Swing

—–  ROTATION

Your golf swing requires rotation through several parts of the body. When movement is limited in one area, another area may try to compensate.

Personal training can help you work on the mobility and strength needed to rotate with greater control.

—–  BALANCE & STABILITY

A powerful movement isn’t very useful if you can’t control it.

Balance and stability create a stronger foundation for the movement happening above it and help your body stay controlled throughout the swing.

—–  STRENGTH

You don’t need to become a bodybuilder to become a stronger golfer.

Strength through your legs, hips, core and upper body can help your body produce and control movement more effectively.

—–  MOBILITY & FLEXIBILITY

Golf asks your body to move through ranges that everyday life doesn’t always demand.

That’s why mobility, flexibility and stretching are part of Sloan’s work with golfers, based on what each person’s body needs. Maintaining that movement can become particularly important as the years go by.

—–  ENDURANCE

Golf isn’t one swing. It’s an entire round.

Being physically prepared to walk the course, repeatedly swing and maintain your energy through the back nine can make the game more enjoyable.

You Don’t Have to Be
a Great Golfer to Train Like One
_______

Golf fitness isn’t only for competitive golfers or people trying to shave five strokes off their handicap.

Maybe you play every weekend.

Maybe you play occasionally with friends.

Maybe golf is one of the things you hope to keep doing well into your 70s or 80s.

Or maybe you’ve noticed that your body doesn’t quite cooperate with your swing the way it once did.

That’s enough of a reason to work on it.

You don’t have to be serious about golf to be serious about staying physically able to enjoy it.

Your Body Changes. Your Game
Doesn’t Have to End Because of It.

_______

Aging changes strength, mobility, balance and recovery.

That doesn’t mean the answer is to stop challenging your body.

It means your training needs to change with it.

Sloan has worked with clients across different ages and abilities for more than 30 years. He understands that maintaining strength as you get older doesn’t mean trying to train like you did at 25.

It means paying attention to the body you have today while continuing to challenge what it’s capable of doing.

For a golfer, that may mean putting more attention on mobility and flexibility. It may mean maintaining leg and core strength. Balance may become more important. Recovery may take a little longer.

_______

The goal isn’t to turn back the clock.
It’s to keep your body as ready as possible for the game you want to keep playing.

Golf Fitness Is Still Personal Training

There’s no standard “golfer workout” waiting for you when you arrive.

Two people can play the same sport and need very different things from their training.

One golfer may need more mobility and rotation. Another may benefit from greater leg or core strength. Someone else may need more balance, stability or stamina.

Sloan considers your body, your abilities, your physical history and what you’re experiencing on the course. From there, he works the different pieces into your overall training.

And because you’re training with Sloan, there will be variety.

There will be challenge.

There will probably be some laughter.

The goal isn’t to turn your workout into golf practice. It’s to make your body a better partner for the game.

Train for the Course. And Everything Else You Do.
_______

One of the nice things about becoming stronger for golf is that the benefits don’t stay on the golf course.

Stronger legs are useful when you’re walking 18 holes. They’re also useful when you’re hiking, climbing stairs or traveling.

Better balance matters during your swing. It matters everywhere else, too.

Mobility helps you rotate through a golf swing, but it also helps you bend, reach and move more comfortably through everyday life.

That’s because Sloan isn’t building a “golf body.”

_______

He’s helping you build a stronger, more capable body that also happens to play golf.

Keep Playing the Game You Love

_______

Maybe you want more stamina through 18 holes. Better mobility and rotation. More strength. Better balance. Or maybe you’d simply like to feel better physically when you play.

And perhaps your goal is even simpler:

You want to keep playing golf for a long time.

Talk with Sloan about what’s happening with your body and what you’d like to be able to do on the course.
